This page includes a list of the main characters in the first few seasons of the tv show along with some information about them.
Characters (page 1)
Jason Lee Scott, played by Austin St. John, was the original leader of the Power Rangers. He was the red ranger and was also a talented martial artist who had a very strong sense of honor. Jason always tried his hardest to be a good leader and make the right decisions for the group. Once Tommy joined the Power Rangers, Jason felt a little threatened by him (as seen in the episode when they had a spell cast on them by that shark monster) but they quickly became the very best of friends. When Tommy became the white ranger, Jason handed his leadership position over to him without a second thought. He remained an invaluable member of the team until he, along with Trini and Zack, left the Power Rangers to attend a peace conference in Switzerland. Jason returned some time later (in the Zeo series) as the Gold Ranger for a short time. His most recent appearance on the show was in Wild Force when he, along with most of the other former red rangers joined up to fight the evil forces together. |
Jason David Frank played Tommy Oliver, the green ranger. Tommy came into the show early in the first season, and quickly proved to be one of the most popular characters. Much like Jason, Tommy was a very accomplished martial artist, but he was given the powers of the green ranger when he was under one of Rita's spells. When he was restored back to normal, he retained the powers for awhile until they were completely gone. Tommy was absent from the show until he returned as the most powerful ranger, the white ranger. He became the leader of the team and stayed as such until the middle of the Turbo series. Tommy was a good friend to everyone and was an exceptional leader. He developed a relationship with Kimberly that continued for some time. (It only ended because Kim wasn't on the show anymore and the writers wanted Tommy to be able to date other girls). Tommy was one of the best characters on the show and was the ultimate ranger. |
The original pink ranger, Kimberly Hart, was played by Amy Jo Johnson. She was a very talented gymnast and also was lucky enough to land Tommy as her boyfriend. Kimberly was a good character and although she started out as pretty ditzy and shallow, she matured a lot as the show went on. She was a member of the team for a long time, but left the Power Rangers to pursue her dream of being a professional gymnast. She left the team to train in Florida for the Pan Global Games and was only seen on the show again in the Turbo movie, along with Jason. Kimberly was one of our favorite characters, and her relationship with Tommy was adorable. (We made a soulmates section on our site dedicated to their romance). Kim was replaced on the show by an Australian girl named Kat, who was former diver who competed in the Pan Global Games. |
Zack Taylor, played by Walter Jones, was the first black ranger. He had an interesting flare to his fighting style which came from his background and love for dance. Zack was a very charismatic and flirty guy who loved to have fun and party. He was a great friend to everyone and was always willing to help someone when the time called for it. He left during the second season of Mighty Morphin along with Trini and Jason to attend the peace conference in Switzerland, but unlike Jason, he never returned to the show again. Zack was well liked by almost everyone, except maybe Angela, the girl he always tried to impress. Her game of hard-to-get should have worn Zack out eventually, but he did not let her attitude get him down. Zack was an interesting character and although not one of our favorites, he brought a lot to the show. |
David Yost played Billy Cranston, the blue ranger. He stayed on the show for quite some time and lasted the longest out of all of the original five rangers. He left during Zeo when he graduated high school a year early and traveled to some distant planet known as Aquitar with an alien guy. Billy's transformation during the show was very drastic. He started out as a geeky guy who always got picked on by Bulk and Skull and who even took one of Jason's martial arts classes. But by the end he was a very independent, self sufficient young man who could take care of himself and who knew what he wanted and how to get it. He was still extremely intelligent, but he was also a very skilled fighter which helped the rangers out quite a bit. Billy was an interesting character and the show seemed weird without him in it. |
Trini Kwan, played by the late Thuy Trang, was a very determined and serious young woman. She was skilled in Kung Fu and believed very strongly in the honor and discipline that martial arts stood for. She was a great friend to everyone, especially Billy and Kimberly, and was missed when she was replaced by Aisha. Trini always had a soft spot for Billy, and we think they would have made a very cute couple if they had been paired up by the show. Trini was very soft spoken and peaceful and controlled the Sabertooth Tiger Megazord. She left the show mid-season with Zack and Jason to go to the peace conference in Switzerland. But like Zack, she never returned to make an appearance on the show again. Sadly, the actress Thuy Trang passed away in 2001 in a car accident. |
