Glee is a show that began airing on FOX in 2009.  It is billed as a comedy, probably because of the musical numbers, but I see it as more of a musical dramedy.  It gathered a huge following in it's first season, so hopefully it can continue it's success as it moves on to year 2.

What was Glee about?

Glee is a show about a high school glee club full of misfits trying their hardest to climb the social ladder and make a place for themselves in the school.  They have to fight against budget concerns, relentless school bullies, rival glee clubs, cheerleader spies, baby drama, and each other as they work towards becoming a top notch show choir.  Each episode contains a bunch of musical numbers to go along with the current storyline - usually vastly overblown productions that a club with money troubles would never be able to put together.  It is not a show to be taken extremely seriously, as everything is played up to make it funnier/more memorable.

What was the best part about the show?

I love the musical numbers so much, which is great since the majority of the show is based around the performances.  Most of the songs they choose are great and work really well within the context of each episode.  Also, most of the characters are quite unique and the cast seems to have great chemistry together.  Kurt and Burt Hummel's father/son relationship is one of the brightest spots in the show and their scenes are always a joy to watch.

What was the worst part about the show?

The focus on Rachel and Finn in the Glee club is pretty annoying, but at least the other members speak up about it.  The way that the theme of each episode is handled is kind of strange.  Just because the theme of the week is "confidence" doesn't mean that every character has to say it at some point.  Subtlety is definitely something that these writers should look up.  Also, some of the big name guest stars have worked, but just as many have been unnecessary and just take time away from the characters I'd like to see more of.

Where did the show go wrong?

I don't think it has yet.  Actually, I think that the show got better as Season 1 progressed, so I hope it can continue upwards with Season 2.

What is our favorite/most memorable scene?

The "Single Ladies" dance, Rachel's "Run Joey Run" debacle, Kurt talking to his dad after blowing the "Defying Gravity" audition, Kurt singing "Rose's Turn" and the scene with his dad following it, Kurt and Mercedes singing "Four Minutes" as Cheerios for the first time, the guys' mash-up "It's My Life/Confessions", "Bad Romance", Will and Bryan duking it out with "Dream On", the entire opening scene in Britney/Brittany, pretty much all of Kurt's other scenes in Britney/Brittany (him going off on Will was so funny), Kurt singing "I Want to Hold Your Hand" complete with flashbacks to him and his dad, the "Teenage Dream" performance, Blaine and the Warblers' Gap Attack, pretty much all of the Kurt and Blaine scenes in "Original Song", and as much as I didn't like it when I first saw it, "Push It" is one of the funniest performances in the show.

Who are our favorite characters and why?

Kurt, Sue, Puck, and Blaine are my favorite characters.  Kurt's storylines are always the most riveting and emotional on the entire show, and his relationship with his dad is just so great to watch.  Even though Sue is supposed to be the "villain" of the show, she is such a well developed and well rounded character that I can't help but love her.  Puck is a jerk that we probably aren't supposed to like either, but underneath his tough guy exterior he's really just a dork.  His voiceovers have some of the funniest lines in the entire show, and he deserves to be here just for his hilarious dramatic overacting in the "Run Joey Run" video alone.  His pursual of Lauren is one of the greatest storylines the show has ever had.  And as we get to know more and more about Blaine's character, we see that he is pretty much a disaster who means well, but tends to give really bad advice and is completely oblivious.  It is such a contrast to when he was first introduced, but I think it was a really great way to take his character, and it makes him all the more endearing.  Also, I absolutely adore Darren Criss and all of the Kurt and Blaine scenes we have been getting this season.  I also really like the character of Rachel when she isn't talking about her relationship with Finn.  Sure, they give her too many solos, but she is such a funny character and if they keep writing her like they did in "Duets", she is definitely one of my favorites.
