In the very first episode of the Amazing Race, the 11 teams raced from Central Park in New York to Johannesburg, South Africa. The first clue in South Africa was found at Victoria Falls, and after that Rob and Brennan won the first Fast Forward at the Boiling Pot. They went on to win the first leg, though not with the large lead they thought they would get. The other teams all had to do a detour that involved either taking a zipline and a bungee jump or a long hike to reach the bottom of Batoka Gorge. All of the teams did the extreme option and then had a tough time finding Songwe Village: the pit stop for this leg of the race. Matt and Ana's directional issues allowed all of the other teams to pass them, and they became the first team ever eliminated from the Amazing Race.
