Yamato and Mimi aka the Princess and the Rebel was one of the obvious choices of many fans. Mistakenly noticed as Cloud Strife's and Aerith Gainsborough's clones, the two were one of the most popular couples.
Why Yamato & Mimi?

What is it about a young, spoiled brat and the sexy, rebellious loner that has everyone complaining "how could Sorato have happened? It's not fair!"? The only answer I can give is that they probably belong together. I can't say with certainty that they do, obviously because everyone does have a different opinion, but there are qualities about them that do make them seem quite compatible.

For starters; as much as anyone would like to complain that the only reason Mimi and Matt are put together is because they're among the "beautiful" people or the "popular crowd", that really is a bunch of BS. Name one time, during seasons 01 and 02, where Matt is surrounded by a bunch of preps and is clearly enjoying their company (remember, the only reason he is ever surrounded by people is because of his fans). Matt chooses to be a social outcast and clearly doesn't enjoy being the center of attention, unlike Mimi, which means you can't stereotype him as apart of the "popular crowd". And, I admit that Matt is really a beautiful person, but don't most of you believe that beauty is skin deep? Why would anyone, including Mimi, only date someone because of their physical appearance? Mimi would probably date Matt because he has a good heart, and not because of his looks. Does this make any sense?

What would draw Mimi to Matt? Matt has more to offer than a good-looking prom date. Growing up had been tough for him and he mostly held in his feelings. He spends a lot of the time alone, usually wondering why bad things had to happen to him. He has a good heart and needs someone to help him smile whenever he feels down. And any true fan of Digimon knows Mimi's ability to make anyone smile. Matt is a deep person and although getting past that hard exterior may make it seem impossible to win him over, it would be well worth it and I bet Mimi would enjoy the challenge.

What would draw Matt to Mimi? Mimi's almost everything that Matt is not. She's constantly happy and never looks at life with sorrow. She makes everyone around her smile, even laugh during her ditzy moments. Who wouldn't want her? Matt would probably turn to Mimi whenever he needs a reason to smile and who knows, that could have turned into love. The two balance each other out; Mimi gets Matt to loosen up, Matt could be there for Mimi whenever she needs help, Mimi could teach Matt that the world is not a miserable place, and Matt could be there to love her.

Also, just another quick point I'd like to make. As most of you know, both Matt and Mimi share a love for music. Mimi had once sung a song to wake up Shogekomon (dontcha love rhyming?) while Matt is the lead singer in his band. It may not seem much but their love for music could possibly have brought them closer together, if Mimi hadn't become a cook...that ending really did confuse me.

Well, I'm sure a lot of you could think of different reasons why Mimi and Matt could work. I know that this battle of "Sorato must end" has gone on long enough but I never did think bad of the couple, just in case you're a Sorato fan. I just feel that if Mimato never could happen than at least Taiora should have. Tai and Sora were ideally the couple that was going to "happen" (or so everyone thought).  he did defend her from Tai's anger but that may only be because he always enjoyed fighting with their leader.

Yamato & Mimi Info

Mimi's a spoiled bratty one, self centered and center of attention, social butterfly. But behind all of that she's sincere and caring. She hates seeing people fighting and dying, she even cried when Yamato and Taichi fighting. She's a reincarnated Aerith (jokes), but she's one of the most popular choices for Yamato.

Yamato's all of her opposite, he's a lone wolf, aloof, cold and quiet. He's a heartthrob. His parents are divorced and he's separated from his brother, Takeru Takaishi. Like Cloud, he never had true friends, except when they got sucked to the Digital World and meets Tai, Mimi, Joe, Izzy, Joe and Takeru.

Yamato & Mimi's Quote

Mimi: "Ohh look at all those goodies. Why don't you be a good, little boy and share those treats with dear, sweet Mimi?"

T.K.: "Awwww Mimi, you don't have to be so nice, I'm happy to share, isn't she cute?"

Matt: "Forget it."

~~~
Mimi: "Are there more ugly monsters like that big, flying beetle?"
Palmon: "Yes, Indeedy!"
Mimi: "Eck!"
Matt: "Those monsters don't scare me."
~~~

Matt: "Little louder, why don't ya, there's a couple of people who aren't staring yet.

Mimi: "Actually nobody noticed yet, but Matt's right."

~~~
Mimi: "They didn't pay their power bill, is that it?"
Matt: "You know, you have no imagination."
Yamato & Mimi's Future
The ending of the 2nd installment was two thumbs down, people all over the world started creating a shrine for Mimato, a hatelisting for Sora and also a hatelisting for Yamato, though, in majority, Taiora (Tai and Sora), Mimato are the main and most popular couples of Digimon.
