"The X-Files" ran for nine seasons from 1993-2001 the movie was released in 1998 and set after the end of season five and before the beginning of season six. David Duchovny plays Agent Mulder and Gillian Anderson plays Agent Scully.

Agents Mulder and Scully were assigned to investigate unexplained phenomena. Their work took them deep into a global conspiracy the government was keeping a secret about an alien race and a "dooms day". Mulder had kept his feeling subtle to prevent the government from taking away the one thing that kept him going... eventually he gave in to the forces of nature.

Mulder: "Scully?"

Scully: "Yes?"

Mulder: " ...I love you."

Scully: "Oh brother."

Scully: [finishing a letter to Mulder]"I remain forever yours, Dana"

Mulder: [After Scully just rambled off about different kinds of witchcraft, stuff she ordinarily doesn't believe in]"Scully?"

Scully: "Yeah?"

Mulder: "Marry me."

Scully: "To believe in extraterrestrials is to say that every scientist that was in his right mind is wrong, and Mulder believing that there is another race besides human is completely undarwinian."

Mulder: "Hey Scully?"

Scully: "Hmm?"

Mulder: "What are you wearing?"

Scully: "I have always though that you reminded me of someone, Mulder…it's captain Ahab from moby dick. You are so convinced that a legend is true that you risk your life and others to prove to yourself that your are not crazy... Mulder you ARE Ahab."

Mulder: "Scully are you coming on to me?"

In the future I picture them married with their son, William, living in a suburb with a dog and really annoying neighbors. Mulder quits the F.B.I. and stays home with William while Scully transfers to teaching at the F.B.I. academy. (It would have been the other way around but Scully has the option of quitting and going back to teach, Mulder can only quit.)
