Why not?  In the Monkey Island games, the only other person (sort of) wanting either of them was the ghost pirate LeChuck.  He was a zombie, undead, or whatever else you want to call him, who wanted to marry Elaine because she was powerful (maybe he "loved" her, but she could never return that).  Guybrush may not be your typical hero, but somehow, he won the heart of Elaine and the two were married.  It is true that he got them into a lot of trouble, but he always found a way out of it.  She is a strong woman and wouldn't return Guybrush's affection if she didn't want to.  He may get on her nerves a lot, but she does care for him and he cares for her.  Their relationship works for them and it works for me too.  I think that they are really cute together and couldn't picture either with anyone else.
