"The next song is Blau, it's from our blue CD. The title of the song is Blau and the title of the CD is Blau, and it means blue. Blue like not my eyes." - Pierre-Alexandre introducing their song Blau
Cercamon is made up of three musicians: Pierre-Alexandre Saint-Yves (lead singer, flutes, hurdy gurdy), Andrew Wells-Oberegger (back-up singer, guitars, bagpipe), and Jean-Phillippe Parent (drums). They are from Montreal and though English is not their first language, they are able to communicate very well. Their music is very different and many of the songs get stuck in your head. No two shows have the same exact set list, so every show is different. Their last show of the day is where they bring out the hurdy gurdy and try to have a deeper set, but they still have a lot of fun and joke around.
We first saw Cercamon when we caught the end of one of their shows while waiting to see E Muzeki. They seemed really talented and so we decided to see them the next day. In addition to being great musicians, we also found that they are really funny. Their in-between song banter is just hilarious and all three have really good personalities. We have bought all of their CDs and enjoy them a lot. We hope to one day be their friends, but with their high standards, it will probably never be. :o) If you haven't seen their show, they (jokingly) don't even refer to one another as friends, just colleagues!
