We bought Eve and Aya in 2000 after convincing our parents that we could take care of them and that guinea pigs were good pets. I picked out Eve and Elizabeth picked out Aya. Eve was the prettiest piggy in the store and she acted like a princess throughout her life. She always sat around while the others wheeked for food and then gladly took the opportunity to eat their lettuce when they weren't looking. She was very sweet and was friends with both Aya and Caramel, although those two didn't get along themselves. When Aya was separated because of her ringworm, Eve and Caramel remained together until the vet suggested that they should be separated as well until we knew if they had ringworm or not.
After the results came back from the lab, we found out that Eve and Caramel also both had ringworm. We already figured that Eve had ringworm because of the scabby lump that we found on her back, so it wasn't a shock, but then she started losing her fur. We caught Aya's ringworm early and her fur started growing back before we even got the oral medication for her, but Eve's bald spot on her back just kept growing. We gave her the oral medicine, but then she stopped eating and we had to start force feeding her through a syringe. Her condition continued to deteriorate rapidly, and we continued to feed her through the syringe, but during one of her feedings, she stopped moving and died in our mom's arms.
Eve was a very special piggy and a great addition to our family. We are happy that Caramel and Eve got to see each other one last time before she passed because Eve seemed really happy. She ran over to Caramel and started purring, something she hadn't done for weeks. Aya couldn't see her though because she was almost recovered and we didn't want her to catch the ringworm again. Eve is greatly missed now and we wish that we could have done something more for her when she was sick. She was only two years old, pretty young for a guinea pig, and we wish that we had more time with this very special piggy.
