Yuki is my second Asian Ball-Jointed Doll. Like Shuichi, he is also based on a character from the anime/manga series "Gravitation". I really enjoy having both of them together and I love taking pictures of Yuki because he is just so pretty!
My first doll was made to be Shuichi from Gravitation, and so the obvious choice for my second doll was of course, Yuki. I started looking around at different sites for a possible Yuki even before Shuichi arrived so I could have some idea of what options were out there. Since Shuichi was going to be about 60 cm tall, I had to find a doll that was about 70 cm so that the height difference between them would work. After searching a bunch of different sites, I wasn't sure if I was going to be able to find a 70 cm doll that would work with what I had in mind, but I did find one that was the same height as Shuichi. I really liked that doll a lot, but I knew that I really wouldn't be happy with them being the same exact height. Eventually I came across the Buddy Doll website, and I was instantly drawn to the Mars mold. It might have been because the doll in the sample photo was wearing glasses that I liked him right off the bat (I love guys in glasses!), but I also thought that his overall look would work well for Yuki. After a few weeks went by and I was still going back to the site to see his picture, I knew that he was definitely the right doll to get.
I ended up ordering Yuki and his blond wig from Featherfall's site because they had a summer promotion going on where you could get free shipping. I ended up having to wait a little bit longer for him to arrive since I didn't order directly from Buddy Doll, but I was very pleased with their customer service and am glad I ordered from them. Clothes and shoes are a bit more difficult to find for 70 cm dolls as compared to what is available for 60 cm dolls, but I found a pair of pants and two shirts from Dollmore so he would have something to wear when he got here. I bought him shoes from the Buddy Doll site a few months after he arrived, so for the first few photoshoots he either has no shoes at all or a makeshift pair of sandals our mom made him. I also ordered him a pair of glasses off of eBay because I always loved how cute Yuki looked in his glasses in the series.
Yuki arrived very late in the evening on July 3rd because the Fed Ex truck had broken down earlier in the day. I was very happy he made it before the holiday so that I wouldn't have to wait the whole weekend for him to come. After taking him out of the box, I really liked him a lot, but I was kind of put off by the fact that Shuichi's head is a little wider than his. And since Yuki's face-up and general look are more realistic than Shuichi's, I wasn't sure if their looks worked together at first. However, it ended up not mattering at all because I don't even notice those things at all anymore. I really think that they make a cute couple! I am very happy I chose Mars to be Yuki, because I think his expression and overall look just really fit the character.
Yuki is based on the character of Eiri "Yuki" Uesugi from the manga and anime series "Gravitation". The series revolves around rock star Shuichi Shindou and his relationship with the novelist Eiri Uesugi. Eiri's pen name is Eiri Yuki, and we mostly refer to the character as Yuki because that is what Shuichi typically calls him. Yuki is a cold and emotionally distant character, heavily damaged by events that occurred in his past. He had begun to open up a bit more after getting involved with Shuichi, however. At the start of the manga series Yuki was 22 years old, so he was probably around 24 by the end of the original series. Yuki and Shuichi are such an intriguing couple and I really enjoy following the progress of their relationship as the series continues!
